Was it definitely outside the box? Yes definitely. There was a gouge out the turf where the keeper slid in, it stopped at least a foot from the edge of the box, which was where he caught Kane. The players were pointing it out to him but he was having nane o it. ETA highlights might prove me completely wrong and make me look even more of a dick than normal Edited October 30 by da_no_1 Quote

Was it definitely outside the box? Was about a foot inside the box. Referee seemed to have a decent view, not sure why he thought it was outside. Good performance in the main, Tobi makes a big difference and Young is such a classy player at such a young age. Clay was better in this game but still need convinced on him and the same goes for Wotherspoon who has put in a couple of good performances in the two wins but has been pretty meh for every other game. Also think the subs were a bit poor - Todd is wasted on the left, Sutherland should have been on straight through the middle, etc. But that's nit picking slightly when we've had such a good win. 5 Quote
Auld_Reekie Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Yeah, good across the park. Like Salvo mentions, Tobi is absolutely critical to this team. Every time he was called on, he did his job well and didn't allow doubt to creep into the team. If that's Mehmet in goals, I genuinely think we'd have lost a goal or two through indecision and inviting pressure. Thought there were very good performances from Young, Hamilton, Ngwenya, Wotherspoon and of course Kane. Dapo looks lively and while his success rate wasn't high, you can clearly tell the opposition were worried about him. Only player I'd verge on criticising would be Clay - not convinced by him at all but need to see a few more games. All in all, a very good night. But McPake has to realise, and he needs to make sure the players realise this too - the impact of Wotherspoon, Kane and other attacking players is far greater when we press as a team and take the game to the opposition. No playing safe. No sitting in. Last night and the Rovers game demonstrated that when we play with energy and a high press, we are a match for any team in this league. They're doing themselves a huge disservice with the passive approach to matches. 2 Quote

Ball got tangled under his feet, Livi player nicked it and Hamilton stopped him before he could drive forward. On the yellow card scale, it was a good one to take. Right enough, it came just after a poor bit of play from Wetherspoon, which resulted in Hamilton receiving a poor ball from Ngwenya. I thought it was fortunate than Young? Was covering to the right once the situation started to develop so the referee didn't have an option to show a red for Dogso, it was a good yellow to take. Quote
da_no_1 Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Re the penalty claim - was willing to give the ref the benefit of the doubt once I had calmed down last night. Having seen the highlights that's a laughable decision and I was well within my rights to call him a dick at the time. Quote

Just on that, watching the replay there, and the gouge would have come from his right foot which was underneath his body, while it was his left that tackled Kane and it was outstretched, so I don't blame the ref for not taking the gouge into account. Still looks inside though: Thankfully it didn't really matter in the end. 3 hours ago, Auld_Reekie said: Tobi is absolutely critical to this team. Got to feel sorry for Deniz - the team wins well, he's not even playing, and yet he's still getting people having a go at him for what they imagine might have happened if he had been on the pitch. Seems really unnecessary tbh. Can we not just be happy we won? And I'd say the 'inviting of pressure' is a whole team thing, given that our attitude last night was infinitely less defensive than it's been most weeks. Maybe if we always played like that we'd not see the kind of goals we have conceded this year. As for Tobi, he does look good, but there were still a couple of instances where Livi really should have scored and he got away with it, particularly one that whistled acorss the 6 yard box and he didn't get to it. If that's Mehmet, you can guarantee the Livi boy following up at the back post buries it. Same with the close range shot they had early on, blazed over, and a lucky escape for us. With Mehmet's luck, he saves it and it cannons in off a defender. I'm not saying Mehmet never makes mistakes, but do we really need to be having a go at him today? 4 Quote
Auld_Reekie Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 Some reasonable points Sanguine but I'm not having that we can't draw comparisons between poor performances and strong performances, especially where specific players are critical to results. I've got a lot of sympathy for Mehmet, where the club had a duty of care to get him out of the firing line months ago and they failed to get him the support he required. But there are fundamental differences between him and Tobi that are fair game for analysis because I do think they can and will manifest in different outcomes for the team. Do I think Tobi is flawless - definitely not. I'm not sure I agree with some of the examples you've given as the players in front of him were almost entirely to blame for gifting strong chances to the opposition, but I do think Tobi has the look of someone who will make an absolute howler or two at some stage (a second half fluffed kick being one example). Hopefully the wider team start to perform better and with more consistency, and that is reflected in Mehmet's performances when they come around. Quote
