After the Pars midweek success with a fully deserved 3-0 win against 2nd placed Livi who were unbeaten this season, the Pars now face Partick Thistle at EEP on Saturday. More of the same, well yes please, However, is it fair that questions need to be asked as the where that performance came from on Tues? It is fair to say that performance levels have picked up in recent games and although a defeat against league leaders Falkirk is a major blemish there is a few who could say that we were competitive and had Kane played, and we had CH instead of MF in defence perhaps the result could have been different. What was clear to see was the attitude was different, playing off the front foot, denying Livi space and being more aggressive, so more of the same will be ideal. Partick edged out the Pars in our last meeting with a frustrating late 88th minute goal at Firhill, but they are team in reasonable form winning their last two games. The Jags sit 5th in the table with 16pts having scored 10 goals and conceding 7. I think given the level of attitude & performance on display last night there is a decent chance we could take something from this game. 2-1 Pars. COYP

I guess an optimistic reading of it is that McPake has realised/accepted that the way we were playing was not getting results, and made changes to address that. Later than we might have liked, but he made them and it worked.

Hopefully that attitude and beleif continues on Saturday and for the rest of the termn, and we end up looking back on the opening quarter of this season as a false start which got corrected in time for us to move into safety - and maybe even contention for promotion (9 points to QP in 4th and still 75 to play for!)

A pessimistic reading might refer to a broken clock, but I'm choosing to disregard that for the moment :-)

The player's and manager must now know, we're capable of beating Partick, only if we have a go. Optimistically I'm going for a 2-0 home win.

I think that optimism is reflected across the faithful. Even looking at scores in the Prediction League the majority are favouring a Pars win. However we have all been there before 😆

I know for a fact the players were positively buzzing after that performance and not just the ones who took part. I saw Sam Young and Andrew Tod on Wednesday. It's no exaggeration to say they were walking on air. Both asked me if I'd been at the game and what I thought of it. It's fair to say I was very complimentary  - well it easily ranks as the best of the season and the best since the 3-1 win over Dundee Utd last season.

This performance will have given the players a huge injection of confidence which may well be enough to carry them to another win v Partick. It was only one game, however, and that confidence will be quite fragile, so the first goal will be even cruecieal than usual. If we get it, I think we'll win it, if Thistle score first, we'll do well to salvage a point.

Winning does that to a group. And I hope it continues.

Age old phrase trust is hard earned but easily lost, and that goes for the trust in yourself as much as in others.

Lets use Tuesday as a building block, I doubt anyone is expecting an easy game, but go out have a go and If we do suffer a setback trust that you can recover.

It was an excellent performance on Tuesday but I'm very hesitant to get carried away and think we've turned it around. I've been bitten with that too many times under McPake's reign in the Championship.

We've had a smattering of good nights like Tuesday and never backed it up. Raith, Dundee United and Partick away spring to mind.

I don't think the players or manager are going to get carried away by one good performance but it will have instilled some confidence and belief. If you go out believing you can win a game, there's a chance you will. Conversely, if you go out thinking you'll lose, you almost certainly will.

I think we have a real chance to win this game. The players’ confidence will be sky high after thrashing Livi but the key will be to make the same aggressive, pressing start to the match.

Partick's manager will surely have watched highlights of the Livi game and hatched a plan to counter these tactics. If we press them, Thistle will probably have their keeper kicking it long, rather than try to play out from the back.

I hope we are aggressive from the off but maybe vary our tactics to surprise them.

The fact that we actually have a squad that would allow us to vary it is progress!

Not so sure about that. Partick are similar to many teams around them who like possession and most of it is in their own half. It would be a big change for them to go long ball. If they play their usual then it is up to the Pars to press them in their own half but go for quick forward passing when they have possession. Early balls at and behind their back 4 will make them very uneasy from the off. If Partick do go long then that may suit the Pars. I am well aware that this could all pan out very differently. I am also aware that one swallow does not make a summer. COYP.
