Aye, it tracks the start of data collection in football and explores how it has evolved over time.

Sounds quite dry but there are some interesting individuals and stories across the time period, plus various examples of clubs who have adopted a data based approach and how it has worked for them.

I'm reading Rory Smith's book on the subject at the moment. It's quite interesting - although I'm sure you'll have read it already.

How does their methodology differ from someone like Opta?

Genuine question - I don't know one way or the other. 

It was just the only one I could find  - ideally to try and see if Inverness' XG was lower in the 2nd half than the 1st last night, whilst compartmentalising the penalty separately...

It would hint that we could do with a goalscorer.

Interestingly, we have the 3rd highest xG in the league at home and 2nd best away from home.  

Partick are on a bad run but were still much better than us for the first 35 minutes.  Our equaliser was out of nowhere - and thanks to them having a dodgy keeper.  We picked up after that, but were under pressure again at the start of the 2nd half and got another goal completely out of the blue (great goal mind you).  It was only really after their equaliser was ruled out and Benjamin scored where we began to look the better side.

If Jakubiak had buried that chance at the end of the first half last night, we could well have seen a more confident 2nd half performance.

In summary, goals seem quite important...

We'll agree to differ. It was marginal but I thought they offered nothing going forward in the 2nd half whereas they showed glimpses of attacking threat in the 1st.

And (to TAP) I've literally said that I wouldn't have changed the shape - and I would have kept Summers on (unless he was carrying an injury). I've also not disagreed that we were less of an attacking threat in the 2nd half. 

If it makes you feel better, I think we are bang in trouble and we'll lose on Saturday.

We were sh1t for most of the first half, but more threatening towards the end of it.

We were sh1t for the majority of the 2nd half, but the more likely side to nick it in the last 10 minutes.

ICT were worse in the 2nd half.

I don't think much of that is contentious.

The flip side is that Inverness looked even less likely to score in the 2nd half than they did in the 1st.

Not that I'd have made the change - unless they were enforced, I guess. 

Heard that the DVD will be available in the club shop by Friday.

Like I said, it isn't always second nature.

I'm hoping this is tempting fate, but I think Holmes is out of his depth.  He maybe has the ability to play at this level but don't think he is physical or streetwise enough.

Caley player gets there first but follows through on Allen. Looked like a case of playing the ball then the man.

Our players are instructed not to protest to the ref once a decision has been made, so I wouldn't read much into that.

Ridiculous decision in the first place. It's a foul on Allan if anything.

We were fortunate to be 3-1 ahead, albeit all of our goals were legit.

However, for a team that hadn't won in a while and must have been low on confidence, we saw the game out relatively comfortably.  

Jakubiak and Kane look like good footballers at this level. There is the one obvious issue if they're going to play as the front 2 (or 2 of a front 3).

I guess that's why you have goal machines like Todd and MFW ghosting past unsuspecting defenders.
