As I said, it's about setting precedents. I don't want us gradually selling off the rights to things as the years go by and losing our identity.

For me, naming the ground differently (even if most people will never use the new name) is a red line. I think it's tacky as hell and demonstrates a willingness to stick a brand on a place I consider special.

Others may disagree, but it's not a position that's too ridiculous to even give credence to.

I get that even if I have a different perspective. I don't think it'll go any further than that, we're hardly going to be Red Bull Pars anytime soon*

That's your prerogative - I happen to believe this is important, not just for now, but for setting precedents.

We've hardly sold our history and infact we don't even own our ground anyway. I just don't see the downside. What exactly are we losing here? I'm not being cheeky, just trying to understand why the strong negative reaction?

Sure, but that's what the club will now call it on all its written output. That's what it'll say on our season tickets. That's what'll be on the Google Maps results. That's what it'll be called in the media if/when we move up the leagues. That's what'll be plastered on the outside of the stadium.

Was there really no other way KDM could have put money into the club? Could they not sponsor the main stand? Or the Kingdom Suite? Or pretty much anything really.

Some things just should not be for sale IMO - EEP already lost a lot of its soul when the terraces were replaced by identikit seating. And now here's another part ripped away.

F*** it, let's just sell naming rights to the club itself while we're at it. KDMGDAFC has a nice ring to it.

I feel like you're overreacting a bit here.

  4. I recently launched my new podcast "East End Tales" which looks back every month at an historic match or sequence of matches in our history.

In the first episode, I spoke with Scott Nipper Thomson about the 2001 Scottish Cup 3rd round replay between ourselves and St Johnstone and touched on topics such as the birth of JC's 2-4-4 formation, the incredible evening itself and Nipper's thoughts on the current season ahead.
