Stirling is a good shout to be fair.

I know!!

The other obvious (in my mind) answer to the question is St Andrews, although its a ball-ache of a drive in comparison to Edinburgh or Stirling.   Id also suggest a trip to likes of Pitlochry, bar lunch, river, the dam, and its got a ton of "Scottish souvenir" shops.

I don't drive but a wee bus trip out to St. Andrews might be an idea.  A wee weekend or so away in Pitlochry is also a possibility.
