Premiership Club finances

Obviously most of the discussions on the leagues have centred around our club recently and it looks increasingly likely that mothballing may be an option without crowds if the media outlets are correct and we won't be back until March. There will be a number of clubs in our league that will protest against mothballing (the ones who hope to make a speedy entry in the premiership) however it may not work out as disastrously as the premiership if we do. Looking simply at the wage bill of the premiership teams from last year a number of clubs without crowds until March which has been mooted could potentially see themselves in financial trouble. The numbers below are from last year so not completely current and might be lower if many players took some sort of wage cut, but the premiership was started on the basis that TV money would see them through for the start of the season until crowds were back (along with whatever season tickets they have sold). There additional costs associated with testing the issues with season tickets and sponsors and now we have started the league with TV obligations to fulfil the premiership clubs could be heading for a financial meltdown.

Edit - Just seen the bbc Scottish gossip column and one premiership exec says clubs will not survive without fans until March

Sadly I cant see apart from genuine club football supporters there will be much sympathy for clubs. With recent transfers and rumoured wages there is a false perception that football is cash rich. That may be the case for the English Premiership and the OF, however I can see a lot of full time and part time clubs heading towards administration if only to protect themselves. Admittedly the pain of points deduction and in some instances automatic relegation may be a bitter pill but perhaps better than oblivion. Survival may be the name of the game. As a healthcare practitioner I fully understand the need for the current measures and achieving the balance between public health and the restrictions is not going to be easy.

Hamilton putting out a wage of £135k.

Ross County from a town same population as Kelty, obviously still be being bankrolled given by McGregor.

Aberdeen on similar home crowd average to Hibs but £15 million wage bill as opposed to Hibs £5.4 million.

Dundee United annual wage bill higher than 6 of the other teams in that league.

Lot of stuff not sitting quite right being honest.
