Newcastle Takeover

Sorry for starting a thread on English fitbaw but this has been a hot topic for a few days. Now the Saudis have taken over at Newcastle it seems that the wagons are circling with the premier league clubs now voting to potentially put a block on sponsorship for Newcastle.

The story itself has created a debate within football around ownership, firstly with sovereign states(or entities related to them) being involved in football and around taking money from jurisdictions steeped in humans rights issues. For me it seems the horse is already bolted with Man city as an example (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_City_F.C._ownership_and_finances) where there is various accusations of money coming from the state in a roundabout way, money laundering and human rights issues.

From my perspective I think it opens up the debate of the role of football administrators is society in general. For years here we have seen the SFA/FA and UEFA try to become the moral crusaders on ownership with their fair and proper persons schemes and on a similar note trying to tackle things like racism and sectarianism(both the SFA and UEFA have been tied in knots around songs and had to back down with token fines). All of these things to me seem like societal problem and although football bodies have a role to play I don't think football administrators should be given the responsibility to resolve these problems, they don't have the skillset and lets face it at least one of the organizations I named above is morally bankrupt anyway(you can decide which).

So in the past few days it's been left to the football administrators to decide if someone should be allowed to take over a business. If the unqualified football body decided they couldnt then they can just invest in another business in the UK if they wanted. Perhaps the government should be the ones being much more proactive about looking into where money coming into the UK is coming from across all industries(London is NO 1 in the world for money laundering) and coming up with a fit for purpose scheme across all industries

O way that might feck up our arms deals with the Saudis......

The Newcastle fans are utterly desperate for any level of success. They've not won anything since the late 60s. Huge club in any terms. They've been talking about expanding the capacity to around 75,000 in recent times. You can understand their fans initial reaction to this news. But it's surely going to end badly. They're an unlucky bunch as a club. It smells bad from here.

I don't have a problem with the Newcastle fans tbh.  Infact I quite like them, cracking night out and been to a few games down there (mostly in the away end tbf)

No number of wrongs make a right but the hypocrisy of some of the other Premiership clubs with dubious backers is astounding. Even the lesser clubs have voted to block the move out of self preservation. Newcastle are now very unlikely to occupy one of the relegation spots next May, increasing the chances of Norwich, Watford, Burnley and Co going down.

Norwich deserve to go down because they're called the Canaries. Sound like a team of utter softies. A team Keyser would support for instance.

On the other hand Geordies are hard and eat fried mince for breakfast. Too hard for folk like Keyser.

Always found games at St James' park to be full of character but also free from violence. Whilst the Georgies are a bit self entitled due to the size of their support they always seem to be a friendly enough bunch with some quality mullets and porno 'taches

Also occasionally prone to punch Polis horses off the pus.

Lived in Norwich for a spell so do have a soft spot for the mighty Canaries.
