U-20s v Celtic

Wasn't at the game, just been following the Twitter updates, but what a great performance to beat Celtic 3-0 away from home.  OK, the scorers were Hopkirk, Reilly and Paton, but we had young Paul Allan in the centre of defence with Stuart Morrison.  Seemed to be a quiet first half but excellent start to the second, with Cammy Gill chipping in with a few good saves as well.

Well played, move above Celtic in the league now!

When you see the development league table, it becomes even crazier thinking Rangers and Celtic Colts should be in the lower leagues.

Whilst Rangers and Celtic do invest more in youth than other clubs, they don't seem to very good at bringing through players. I looked at the youth set up origins of players in some Scotland squads a few years back and it was Hearts and Hibs who where the biggest providers.

One argument in favour of having the OF colts in the lower leagues is that it will give the majority of their players an early taste of where they will end up playing.

Well done the Pars u21.

rangers U20's have beeen faily uselss for hte past 3 years at least when all the limited money they had was poured into the first team but we should be proud of the job potter and the young guys are doing developing well and hopefully pushing the first team boys in the second half of the season and well into next year and also PJ who ? ;)

Good to see Reilly amongst the goals. If AJ wants to keep his loan until the end of the season (which I believe he will, I disagree with it but) then a run of under 20 games might be what he needs to improve his confidence.

Not really sure that's true. Celtic have McGregor, Tierney, Forrest all playing regularly, and Rangers have Aird and Mackay playing regularly. Technically, you can count Danny Wilson in there too, even though he left then came back via Hearts.

They have always a few homegrown players in their own sides, but the point I tried to make related to the Scotland squad, where given the size of their youth set ups, they consistently, over a few years contributed less players than other clubs. Given their combined resources compared to other clubs, it seems to be a bit counter intuitive.
