East End Park sponsorship

  1. 1. Toni Macaroni Arena? The Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium? Would you welcome a stadium name change?

When it was turned in to an all seater stadium, East End Park became a paean to captitalism and a White Elephant.

Any sort of soul or character the ground possessed was eradicated. It was sterilised. It's a soul-less place with no atmosphere now and has been for many years.

The ground long ago sold out to commercialism, so selling the name to a sponsor doesn't bother me in the slightest.

As others have said, it will still be known as East End Park to the fans anyway.

In terms of the increased appeal for sponsorship in general, it's just what the club has to do. They need to maximise revenue streams and this is just one way of doing so. Season tickets and the lifeline aren't guaranteed incomes from season to season (i.e. the numbers could drop) so the club want to ensure that they can at least 'hold their position' as it were on a financial footing. It's why we sign players to one year deals only (which is also why it's so hard to sign players).

Nail on head!

Cardle, it would appear, has a new "Social Media Goal Sponsor".

What is a Social Media Goal?  Does the club receive a bonus for every 100 tweets?  If Cardle is retweeted 1000 times, does the club get £10?

Looking for sponsors for all our players for that.  Every time Cardle scores and it is posted on social media that company's name will appear on the post.

To be fair, I was being a little facetious with my question.

I just think that everything is getting very silly now. Fair enough for a strip sponsor, or boot sponsor, or match ball sponsor, match ball sponsor, but what next?

How about a tattoo of a sponsors logo next? Im not sure anybody will see it, but there cant be much else left to sponsor anyway?

I do understand why some might think it's overboard.... but it's free money to the club. I have a feeling there is a bidding war on Nicky Clark's goal sponsorship (unless I've missed it) which costs the club zip except a little time to set up. It's absolutely brilliant that we have minds at the club that are coming up with these ideas that added up, could make the club a nice sum each season for literally nothing in return. If that gives us an edge in terms of offering better players deals, I'll be happy to see sponsors stickered over each individual seat if need be.

Whilst I agree that free money is good - I do feel there is the possibility of diluting sponsorship of advertising boards, match day programmes, the shirt sponsor, all of which will bring greater revenues.
