East End Park sponsorship

  1. 1. Toni Macaroni Arena? The Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium? Would you welcome a stadium name change?

Since Mikey Mlotkiewicz (f*****g cracking name!) was appointed general manager last year the club have taken great steps towards increasing the its income, with 'sponsor the captain' and 'sponsor the goal' being just two initiatives that are included in the soon-to-be-launched Dunfermline Athletic FC commercial brochure. One deal which has been announced in the last few days will see all social media posts (just images, I think) include the name of Edinburgh-based solicitors Thorntons, and this made me wonder if there wasn't anything the club were willing to slap a company's name on for a price. I suppose, aside from **** sponsorship, the biggest thing the club could auction off would be the naming rights for East End Park. Dumbarton, Ross County and Livingston have all embraced the practice in recent years, with Dumbarton having gone through two three different stadium names in recent years! Having not seen the brochure yet, and with the random things that are up for sponsorship, it stands to reason that the club may be on the verge of welcoming a sponsor for East End Park.

So, if it were to come to it, would you be happy for East End Park to change its name, if the price was right?

Edit: Not two minutes after posting this, and I've just discovered that stadium sponsorship is already up for grabs for the coming season. I'm a fairly avid follower of the club's social media accounts, but I must say that this is the first I've seen of this.

I seem to recall there was a similar suggestion at the start of last season.  Nothing came of it, not that I care, itll always be East End to me.

As for why it failed last season, I wonder if, perhaps, the club was trying to target a big name business but we simply arent a big enough name any more? Or, maybe local companies who may be willing to inject funds were priced out by the clubs demands?

I think last season just being promoted from League One put a lot of companies off. We'd likely go for a multi-year deal and maybe potential bidders wanted to see how well we'd do in our first season before ploughing in a lot of money. It's probably the one sponsorship deal outside of the kits that should be really big money (in relative terms to a club our size).

Or maybe nobody sees enough benefit to this at this particular time? Livingston's Almondvale name changes is seen pretty negatively in the press and on social media, which could put people off doing it with other clubs.

Or maybe sponsors realise that old stadiums are remembered by their old names?  I give you St James' Park as an example.  Technically now The Sports Direct Arena? Still always referred to as St James'.

Maybe its different with new grounds that are given long term naming contracts, like the Emirates, or the Etihad.  Although thats not a guarantee.... Look at Stoke, the Bet365 Park, but still often remembered as the Brittania Stadium, or Boltons Macron Stadium which many will still refer to as the Reebok.

I cant see companies like Sky, Amazon, or Babcock being interested?  Id have thought CR Smith as a local business might be interested, but then you have a conflict of interest with SRJ.

Just seen that we are offering a sponsorship package for substitutions made at East End this coming season, maybe this will shake AJ up to make subs a bit more often!

Anyone else feel like we may be offering too many things for sponsorship?

Apart from the sheer cheesiness of it, I feel like it might dilute the perceived value of sponsorship if absolutely everything has a name on it.

I wouldn't necessarily say its cheesy, unless perhaps you had "The Norrie McCathie Stand Sponsored By Amazon" and the "Grahams The Family Dairy Rennie Suite ", "Charlie D's Sponsored By Dixons Carphone Warehouse", and the "Ticket Office Sponsored by StubHub".

But I do agree that all that sponsorship is taking things too far.

When it was turned in to an all seater stadium, East End Park became a paean to captitalism and a White Elephant.

Any sort of soul or character the ground possessed was eradicated. It was sterilised. It's a soul-less place with no atmosphere now and has been for many years.

The ground long ago sold out to commercialism, so selling the name to a sponsor doesn't bother me in the slightest.

As others have said, it will still be known as East End Park to the fans anyway.

In terms of the increased appeal for sponsorship in general, it's just what the club has to do. They need to maximise revenue streams and this is just one way of doing so. Season tickets and the lifeline aren't guaranteed incomes from season to season (i.e. the numbers could drop) so the club want to ensure that they can at least 'hold their position' as it were on a financial footing. It's why we sign players to one year deals only (which is also why it's so hard to sign players).
