Hearts have Riccarton which is twenty minutes away from Rosyth, for an extra twenty minutes of travelling you can go to a better funded youth academy which is playing at the Elite level, and who's senior side will pay higher wages. Or you can go to Dunfermline, who play at the performance (progressive) level and who by posts on this thread, and from what I've heard, is very poorly funded and quite frankly a bit of a shambles. We are not the most attractive prospect in our immediate area. Having a training ground will be a fantastic asset, a youth academy though? I'm yet to be convinced that it is at all viable.

Talk of funding brings me back to something that I've said before, having an academy, especially a successful one that entices the best young players in the area is really expensive. Is that financially prudent when we're in the the Scottish Championship? Not for me.

Is there anything to suggest Kerr could, or has played as a RCB before? I'm not at all sure on Kerr, he plays in the position where we've got the most cover for, I'd genuinely have rb/rwb down as the position of least need. He's also just a bit pish.

Where about was that occurring? What puts a magnifying glass on matters IMO is Raith getting a new ownership group and going from a poor championship side, into one putting up an incredible points total and if it wasn't for a Dundee United side posting up a two million pound loss, would be running away with the title. Such talk of a ten year plan just seems a bit much in that regard. Not for a lack of money either if our reported losses are to be beleived.

Cardle signed for free after decking the Airdrie captain after signing a pre contract, he played for Dunfermline for just as many years at Watson did (Which in the post bosman era is mighty impressive) and chances are it would've been more if we hadn't ****ed him with administration. Now despite getting screwed over with administration he still came back to the club, dropping down from the Premier to a club who'd just finished seventh in league one. Won his second title with Dunfermline along the way. As well as that he settled in the area, fully integrated himself and has done a good amount for charity. You can't accuse anyone of rose tinted specs if you're going to say all that above doesn't get you in the same sentence as John Watson. When you consider how transient a players career has become sinse Bosman it only makes Cardle all the more impressive.

While I agree Legend is too far (as mentioned below) he's absolutely up there in terms of hero status, especially in the Modern era. With regards to Rose tinted specs, do you not think there's a degree of that with players from the 80s? I've often seen Ross Jack and John Watson referred to as legends, are they more deserving than Joe Cardle? In terms of what they've achieved with the Pars, time served, goals, coming back after admin* and settling in the town, there's not many players in the past 25 years more deserving of hero/legend status than Joe Cardle. I do fully agree with the rest on your post with regards to signing him now, but if Joe Cardle doesn't have some hero status with what he's achieved for the town and club you won't have many, if any over the next 25 years either I feel. *Didn't leave in the best terms the second time, but ah well. Because if he wasn't Joe Cardle*, it would be a non starter. He's 36 years old, hasn't played competitively in six months, which was at a lower level than were at now, his best years came when he played out wide as a winger, we don't play with wingers. And him playing means you are taking away game time from a Sutherland etc. *This isn't an insult, Joe Cardle is about as close as you'll get to a modern day icon, two league titles, 7 years service and a **** load of screamers. But realistically he hasn't played at Championship level since 2020. Time is a cruel mistress and she comes for all of us.

I'd take both. With regards to Smith, do we have space in the squad (once everyone's fit) with Moffat and Summers sighed? What I would say is that if we're taking a longer term view I'd absolutely take Smith with the prospect that he's more likely to join permanently?
