the saline hill puma
if you hang on for about a week you will get the result of the first match....
Vinnie
Not a great start for England so far, you might not need to wait a week
Salvo Montalbano
Fairly even first day. Lyon really unlucky not to get a wicket with some really spot on bowling for a long spell. England will be delighted - a draw would be a great result for them at the Gabba.
SanguinePar
England doing better than expected, especially after losing Cook so early. Root is a bit of a loss though, and a pretty cheap wicket.Agree about Lyon, @Salvo Montalbano, he's been banging them down. Nicely poised, but I'm predicting an early collapse from England when they resume later tonight.

Vinnie
Second test looks to be more interesting - Australia declaring in their first innings, destroying England with the ball, then collapsing in their second innings when they could have forced a follow on. I thought their collapse might have been due to a deterioration of the pitch, but England are in with a shout
Salvo Montalbano
Australia probably still favourites but England have a chance. All depends on whether Root can go on and make a score and how the pitch deterioates for Lyon to exploit the English batters awful playing of spin. Bowling first looks a bad call by Root, not enforcing the follow-om looks a bad call by Smith. It's what makes Test Cricket so engrossing. Despite what the nay sayers will say. "Here's a plan, let's give Jimmy Anderson an hour or two bowling at us in the dark, under the lights, with a new ball on a pitch which suits him perfectly. Yeah, that'll work!"
