'Netflix effect' poses challenge to British TV

To be fair to Corbyn in this case @Vinnie I think he has singled out these companies because they have been notoriously underpaying tax.

It is a bit like Corbyn himself however, well meant, but ill thought out and probably unworkable.

Who decides what better journalism is? An entire state subsidised battalion of Owen Joneses would not really be an enhancement.

If the Londoncentric left of centre media had not been so self absorbed with identity politics, and had spent a bit of time trying to investigate wtf was happening in the North of England, and other deprived areas, instead of lazily writing them off as thick racists for years, then Brexit may have been avoided.

Those in the media clamouring for this subsidy could do with taking a long hard look at themselves and their priorities.

He was actually saying that the tax on tech firms would be to support better journalism. Doesn't seem like a bad idea on the face of it IMO, at least as a counterpoint to an industry very much dominated by corporate-friendly sharks like Murdoch and the Rothermere family.

How do you get better journalism?  On this age of digital and social media, being first to break a story is key and to break a story first the facts tend to be sketchy at best.

Unless of course he wants folk to promote him?
