That doesn't really make sense though because his concentration was absolutely tested more last season by not touching the ball for long periods in games and having to make saves, which he did.

To me, for whatever reason, the confident keeper we had last year has been replaced by the one we had in the championship previously whose confidence was in tatters.

Which to be fair to Mehmet, he didn’t make many blunders at all last season with Benedictus in front of him.

  2. Depends how you measure “progress”, what metrics and timescales.

On pitch, from when McPake took over to now, very different in terms of results.  At the very least I know that the players he puts on the park are well drilled and are committed to doing their best.  At worst we look a mid table championship team with a few issues that we’re working on.  So that’s progress in comparison to where he started.  But is it progress compared to Crawfords last season?  Up for debate.  Progress compared to AJs 2nd last season?  Again debatable.  Where McPake may have the edge is there are more players with potential to grow.  What May restrict him is his loyalty to a couple of those who aren’t producing right now.

Off the pitch though the saline hill puma has a point.  We now have more paid staff (non playing) than we’ve had since administration and we have a building site of a training facility.  Otherwise in terms of measuring output, we are indeed exactly where we were when they came in with regard to league standing, having spent time going backwards.  The plans all sound good but right now you can see why the detractors are so minded.

Nisbet money has come and gone into cash flow so that’s no longer a “nest egg” as revealed at last supporters forum.  “Significant losses” were incurred by our time in league 1.

Conclusions could include that we haven’t in fact progressed at all since the new owners came in.  If anything taking into account losses and erosion of cash flow, potentially gone backwards?

Once the training facility is complete and the changes to the professionalism of the commercial operation come through with increased revenue, we could then argue for progression.

It’s certainly not a “black and white science”.

    sorry 🤣

Off the top of my head blaming Mehmet for the first goal. From memory it was weak from Edwards again defending a corner.

if you left early then 👋 👋 👋

I absolutely blamed Mehmet for the first goal at the time, as did my sister who was at the game with me today, her first time watching the Pars for a couple of years.   She couldn’t believe how bad he was for both goals.   Suppose we will see soon when the goals are shown on X.  But teams are definitely targeting Mehmets inability to command his box, Morton did it couple of weeks ago, and Partick did it today.

As for your other point, if people who have paid for a ticket want to leave 5 mins into a game or 50 minutes or be the last one there, then good on all of them.  Personally I’ve left a few games early when it’s clear we’re simply not going to get anything out of it.  Why not? I’ve paid my money, I give plenty of support when I’m there.

    lol, don’t…

onto the game - two gifts from our keeper, we played the majority of that game with zero aggression.  I was surprised we scored.  Partick had the game won in the first half with the simple stuff done well.

To progress we need, a goalie and a striker.  But then we all knew that already.

O’Halloran was also one of our best players on Saturday despite his man inexplicably getting MOTM 😂 Hospitality must’ve been good.

To be fair to the Airdrie left back, he was the only one out of their team that looked to take the initiative and drive forward - though a pretty damning indictment on the rest of their players.  Thought they were dreadful on Saturday.

Onto tomorrow, the big question - if all 3 centre backs are indeed fit, which do you bring back and for who?   I reckon there’s a solid argument for all three to return, but how in the hell do you drop Hamilton or Otoo?  If shuffling either or both into midfield, does Allan make way despite having probably the longest run of games in his career?  Surely Chalmers doesn’t drop out after being one of the best on the park on Saturday?

Depending on how this virus thing has affected the team, could be a very interesting selection headache for the manager!

If we want to be pushing for playoffs we need a win, draws not a bad result with current injury list.

As we know from last season and the earlier game at EEP they are a team we have struggled against.

To be fair though, we’ve not lost to them.  Hopefully that continues Saturday.

On a related note, I read today that someone stormed out of the Rangers AGM today after asking if Rangers are going to 'comply with Net Zero', then bizarrely storming out shouting 'No Surrender!' when folk got annoyed at such a ridiculous question. Bizarre.

Proper belly laughed there - they are beyond parody at times.

Saying all that, I remember a previous forum where a questioner was ridiculed for asking why there wasn’t a big “Dunfermline athletic” sign on the stadium, and was bold enough to further suggest that attendances would rise as people would know what the building was.

Well, here we are with the stands all fully branded and attendances are up, maybe he wasn’t such a moonhowler after all. 😂😂😂

  8. I agree GG.

Otoo may have been signed as a centre back, but for me he has a brain fart per game ratio higher than average, and he’s not strong enough in the air (yet) to have CB as his strongest position in this team.  I really enjoy watching him in midfield as he seems to bring physicality and has an eye for a good driving run or pass.   That’s not to say eventually he will be stronger and more natural at CB, right now for me though his performances in midfield have been some of his best in a Pars jersey.

  9. Very good win.  First half would get football stopped, second half we grew into the game massively and throttled Arbroath.  Perversely the injuries meant we had to be more attacking and it made the difference.  That all said, Arbroath were complete and utter dug meat.  Can only beat what’s in front of you though, and we did.

Home win guaranteed. Think I'll fire along on Tuesday night. 3-1

Oh I wish I had your optimism.  I think it’s going to be a very difficult night.  We are devoid of confidence and cohesion throughout the spine of our team.  Maybe the change of manager at Arbroath will lift us rather than them.  We do need to win one of the next two games or things really start to feel a bit dark.

We have been the better team in the last two league games and should've taken at least something from them, so hopefully this time with a bit better finishing we will get the drop of the ball we've been missing. They can't keep being this lucky all season.

    1-0 Pars.

It’s getting to the point now it’s beyond luck for them.  They’re a decent side, are playing well, and right now look a better team than us - certainly more consistent and clinical.

We need them to have an off day and for us to have a good 90+ minutes, and hopefully we can give them a result that knocks them for a bit, and gives us something to kick on with.

  12. I’m away down south for this weekend anyways so bit annoyed won’t be there, however if I was home, I’d go.  £20 isn’t that bad.  Could have been a hell of a lot worse.  Probably get around 5000 there.

Wonder what kind of attendance it could have been with a £10/£5 entry point? Would it have got to the 10k mark?  Certainly wouldn’t have been cost effective with the added policing and stewarding costs, so we are where we are.

Thought the Ayr scoreline flattered us tbh. The drama with the Sharps error bit is that is that he keeps making them.

Even when they all come back(and putting our hat on Breen staying fit would be foolish) I have no idea what our best team would be. I think our best players who need to play are KRH, Todd, McCann, Bene, Fisher and Edwards, and I'd like Hamilton, Otoo and Summers to play, so how do you fit them into a team with them playing in there best positions? What about Moffat who's scored our last three goals? And in every case it falls apart for me when we get to the strikers and truthfully, I'm not really happy with any of them. Or the goalkeeper truth be told.

    I agree sadly.

Mehmet has returned to type from where he was in Championship first time round with us, and Sharp no better.  Last season we rarely saw any errors in goal.   Already I can count 5 which have led to a goal.  All because Bene not in the team? Nah.

Striker wise we are found wanting.  Wighton has games with little to no presence about him.  Jakubiak looks like he struggles with endproduct, McCann I think suffers from lack of game intelligence to be in the right place often enough, then suffers from lack of composure when he does get there.

MAYBE with Todd and KRH up and running some of these issues iron themselves out and it’s all been about service.   I fear not however.

We can be half decent but right now we are destined for 7th/8th.  Sort those two issues out and we’ll make top end playoffs.

    easy enough eh? 🫣

Quite something if we get over 6500 on a friday for a scheduled TV game

Oh we’ll get well over that I think.

if it was a non TV game I reckon we’d have seen 8000+

looking forward to it and hoping against hope we can get a win.

This was our main issue. We were so poor behind the ball both attacking and defending which made it look like we were standing off, we weren't per se, we were just disorganised, our lines weren't tight enough and it allowed them to play through us.

Going forward it was the same. Once they sat on Moffat, he disappeared and that mean the only forward threats from midfield were in Comrie and Edwards but they can't do it all as they need a link up to move it through the lines in the middle and Chalmers and Allen to a much lesser extent, weren;t doing that.

I'm a big fan of Joe Chalmers, but I'm not sure how anyone can say he played well. He was off the pace, gave the ball away and didn't put a foot on it often enough to take the sting out of them in the second half. We were far too rushed in recycling the ball second half when we should have been focussed on keeping it for 6-10 passes to break their momentum. That is why I was absolutely furious at Mehmet's mistake. Not only was it a terrible pass, there was no need to do it so quickly. We need to be cleverer than that and manage the game better.

As for McCann, he was absolutely anonymous for the entire game, and how he stayed on whilst Jakubiak went off, I will never know. We can't keep saying, 'he's a young lad' forever, at what point does consistency become the expectation? You never know what version of him is going to turn up. A great example of his lackadaisical display the other night came in the first half, Moffat got wide and put in a brilliant cross right in between the centre backs, a strikers dream ball, exactly where you'd want him to put it. Where was McCann, standing ball watching behind the second defender. As a striker, the first thing you are told is you must get across your defenders, either in the box, or when it goes up to the park.

He is easily our most frustrating player. When he's on it, he's brilliant. When he's not, we're a man down.

Very hard to disagree with any of that.

    Scenarios -

Win and we are fourth.  All will be rosy across the forums and social media, McPake will be heralded as the man to lead us to the promised land of the Premiership, meanwhile sales of bratwurst and other German related produce will soar.  Talk will begin of who the next “Kevin Nisbet” sell on will be.

    Or-

We lose 2-0 and we sink to the bottom, all forums will contain snivelling posts of derision and “told you so”, Wighton will be labelled lazy, Chalmers not good enough for this level, McPake “found out”, the Germans will be subject of a partial boycott of the local Lidl/Aldis and someone will report that a bid to the council has been made to flatten (KDM GROUP) East End Park and turn it into the UKs biggest German Donner Kebab outlet.

Or, the most meh 0-0 draw ever.  Nothing changes.

    Bratwurst for dinner 🌭 🇩🇪

Also saw Sheffield United scouts in the stand possibly looking at Ewan Otoo, chequebook in hand.

    Premiership here we…. 🤫

If this had been in the other end, Dundee would be getting hammered. They'll likely still get hammered for letting them get into the ground in the first place, something I'm surprised about because every time I've been to Dens, the searches I've been subjected to would normally have cost me money with happy ending included.

See this is what confused me too.  Both at Tannadice and Dens, it’s the same security company who employ what I can only describe as the most stringent little Nazi gits ive ever had misfortune to encounter at football grounds.   I presume they were all briefed to give their entitled friends from Ibrox a much easier time than the rest of us would get, probably because the Rangers fans would kick off a lot more than we mere diddy team supporters would do.

For so many of these things to get past security at Dens demonstrates a total failure on their part.
